A Kinda New Feature

I’m a quotes addict, and I’m proud to admit it. Nothing wins an argument like being able to throw out an obscure Mark Twain or Einstein quote, and sometimes Steve Jobs just says some really interesting things.

In the past, I’ve scribbled sticky notes, added items to Tasks, and tried to keep up with everything scattered all over the place.

Finally, I decided to just throw up a new Wordpress install to handle all my quotes. What better web package than the ever-popular blogging platform, eh?

Thanks to the convenience of the new RSS widgets for Wordpress, we’ve got another column here at your local Babble shop – the latest 10 quotes added to my quotes database. At the time of this writing, K2 reports that there are 54 entries in the Quotes DB, so stop by and check some out. More are being added as I track them down (almost daily)…

The Funniest Thing I Read All Day, By Far!

I was wetting myself by the end of this comment by ChickenGeorgeVII over on the Fark thread about NYC power outages (oh yeah, and some place named St. Lewis…):

Live in area…

FRIDAY – power out, trees down, carnage and destruction, dogs and cats making love, no cable or phones, cell towers down, started forming tribes amongst neighbors.

SATURDAY – still no power, boiling all water, all food has spoiled, no law enforcement, no relief, wildlife eating at my car, children from other tribes stealing my batteries, responded by looting their generator, using bathroom in the woods and pine cones for toilet paper, hunting wild boar for food, declared war on tribe across the street.

SUNDAY – still no power water etc, drinking blood of dead children of other tribes, selling remaining children in exchange for AA batteries with a few minutes of juice remaining, eating raw rats and rancid cabbage for solids, using the bathroom wherever I damn well please, no longer respecting my own tribemates and thinking of selling their children for used pine cones.

MONDAY – Power comes back on. Microwave a can of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee Beefaroni and invite neighbor over to make nice and watch cartoons, trying to train myself to stop pooing in the mailbox and use the toilet again.

Ahh, good times… Reminds me of a radio spot I’ve heard lately around town. It’s a random clip on 98.1 out of Spartanburg that says “Men and women sleeping on the beach, side by side”. Every time I hear it, I can’t help but think about Bill Murray in Ghostbusters talking about how all hell is breaking loose when he says “Cats and dogs, living together – mass hysteria!”. Ah, what a great movie…

New Version of Subtle

Fresh off the presses is a new version of the Subtle theme I’m now using.

Since I didn’t have anything else planned tonight, I thought I’d go through and make a few customizations. As usual, I don’t expect anything to break, but if it does, be assured that it’s my fault. Subtle was working fine when I uploaded it, I swear! :)

If (Confusion.Equals(“Very”))…

I was looking through some source code for a class I was using, and found the following block of code:


if (provider.Equals("LOADEXTPROVIDER"))
{
OutputLine(" Assembly: " +
providerAssembly);
OutputLine(" Connection Class: " +
providerConnectionClass);
}

Now, the .Equals method has several overloads that take care of a variety of other potential tasks, but can anyone tell me why you would want to use this method for a textual comparison? Why not simply:

if(provider == "LOADEXTPROVIDER")

Are we just trying to accomodate varying coding styles, since we’re creating the method for other purposes as well? Is there actually a language out there that doesn’t support == (or simply = in farked up languages like Delphi)?

Don’t Freak Out!

You’re not on the wrong blog… Just thought it was time for a change. :)

Thanks to Blogging Pro, I found Subtle, a great new little theme that has a really attractive style that I like.
